We make sure to keep class energetic and still focus on providing an injury-free experience. Cleanliness and safety are very important to us! On top of a safe area to train, students can get started in Jiu-Jitsu classes and build confidence and improve their fitness while building camaraderie. You’ll find yourself more capable of handling stressful situations as well! It’s a perfect experience for all belt ranks, especially for beginner white belts. Our School
Charleston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a positive, welcoming community for all. The moment you join us, you immediately become a part of our family. You can train for fitness, competition, or self-defense and feel right at home! There aren’t any cliques here. Everyone comes together on the mat or during our off-the-mat activities, including team bonding events and social gatherings.
We are striving to build future leaders, instructors, and professors in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our students are taught the strong values passed down through Jiu-Jitsu, to our affiliation, Nova União, to us. Here, it is not about winning against your teammates but instead it’s about winning in the tournaments. It’s about training hard and helping each other become our best selves. Our History
Our story goes back to the great work done at Nova União. Academy owner Nate Sisco spent his first 16 years in Jiu-Jitsu directly under Danilo Cherman, the president of Nova União USA. Danilo’s passion for Jiu-Jitsu and building leaders was passed down to Nate, who constantly checks in with his professor and is proud to serve under the flag of Nova União.
With our August 2025 opening, Nate is looking to help each student while building toward the future. He hopes to form many new leaders and to build a strong team and community in the Charleston area – eventually adding more locations to spread the greatness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to as many people as possible.

Little Rhinos BJJ
(ages 7-15)
In a world where personal safety is paramount, Jiu-Jitsu equips kids with the tools they need to protect themselves. Kids will learn practical self-defense techniques that empower them to handle any situation with confidence and poise. Personal safety is paramount, and we’re here to provide kids not only with an amazing family atmosphere where they will make new friends, but we will arm them with the skills they need to protect themselves.
Adult BJJ
(Beginner through Black Belt)
Our adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes focus on learning and refining your techniques, emphasizing leverage and strategy over brute strength. Each session hones your skills, instilling confidence in your ability to control the mat. For those yearning for competition, our academy offers opportunities to test your skills against others. Whether you aim for local tournaments or the next big fight, we prepare you to rise to the occasion and claim your spot atop the podium.
Fitness
(Adults of all ages)
Transform your body and mind with our rigorous training sessions. Our adult classes provide a full-body workout that boosts stamina, flexibility, and strength.
